Cleaner Kingston Initiative – Encroachment and Community Management

In keeping with our holistic Cleaner Kingston initiative, which goes far beyond garbage collection, the City Inspector’s Department has been actively enforcing measures to maintain order and cleanliness across our communities. In January, notices were served for 170 encroachments on sidewalks and roadways. This included 62 derelict properties, 6 illegal structures, 14 street-side garages, and 88 abandoned vehicles, resulting in the removal of 25 vehicles from our streets.

We would like to make a simple appeal to residents: we are running out of space to store vehicles left on our roads. Please dispose of old vehicles responsibly. Do not leave them to become a public health risk or a burden on the community.

Derelict and abandoned vehicles continue to pose a significant challenge in many communities across the municipality. To address this, we will be ramping up removal efforts in February in the following areas:

Derelict vehicles: Cadot Road, 75 Lane, 8th Street, Sherbourne Crescent/Stony Hill, Cross Road Market, Hillside Crescent in Rockfort, Olympic Way, Burnside Valley, Darling Street, Rock Pond, Pitcrian Valley, Central Avenue, Jackson Road, East Kirkland Trail, Tremaine Road, Crieffe Road, Elliot Avenue, and Grants Pen.

Abandoned vehicles: Lewis Villa Road, Balcombe Drive, Lemington Avenue, Zadie Garden, Glen Avenue, Kensington Road, Bay Farm Road/Olympic Court, St Joseph Road, 113 Hagley Park Road, Padmore Drive, Dilston Road, Languard Avenue, Texton Road, Verene Avenue, Lincoln Avenue, Rosalee Avenue, Kenton Drive, Princess Alice Drive, Rochdale Crescent, Dunrobin Acres, Begonia Avenue, Kelly Road, Langford Road, Sandy Close, Waltham Park Road/75 Lane, Boulevard Avenue/New Haven, Victoria Street, Albert Street, Berkley Avenue, Bygrave Avenue, Gilligan Avenue, Gold Street, Christopher Road, Carol Road, Second Avenue, and Franklyn Avenue.

We are also targeting illegal garages in Lyndhurst Close, Padmore Drive, Buchan Avenue, Standpipe Lane, East Bloomsbury, Margaret Villa, Christopher Road, Maiden Street, 77 Lane, 75 Lane, Coconut Crescent, Healthshire Avenue, Langston Road, and Moreton Park.

In addition, 605 event and party signs have been removed since the start of the year as part of our drive to maintain cleanliness and public order.

Our Cleaner Kingston initiative demonstrates our ongoing commitment to creating a cleaner, safer, and more accessible environment. We urge all stakeholders to support these measures as critical steps to protect our communities, preserve public spaces, and ensure that Kingston and St. Andrew remain clean and welcoming for residents and visitors alike.
