KSAMC to Rename Ashoka Road in Waterhouse, Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce Drive in Honour of the Great Olympian
The Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) will formally rename Ashoka Road in Kingston 11 in the Waterhouse Division in honour of the five-time Olympic and multiple World Champion, Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce Drive. The renaming ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 25, 2025.
It follows the unanimous passing of a resolution to that effect in October last year by the KSAMC, presided over by the Mayor of Kingston, His Worship, Councillor Andrew A. Swaby JP.
That resolution took note of the fact that the Honourable Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce, OJ,CD was born and raised at Ashoka Road, and is the only sprinter, male or female, to win five world titles in the 100-metre (2009, 2013, 2015, 2019 and 2022).
Sprint legend, Fraser Pryce, was also recently bestowed with the KSAMCs highest honour, the Keys to the City of Kingston in February this year.
The honour recognized Mrs. Fraser Pryce, born and raised on Ashoka Road, for her stellar achievements in track and field, and unwavering dedication and contribution to the Waterhouse community and the wider Jamaica.
