Signage Update

Quarterly Engagement with Outside Advertising Agencies: In keeping with the commitment made last year, the KSAMC has now held its first quarterly meeting with outdoor advertising agencies.

The meeting was productive and provided an important opportunity for engagement between the Corporation and industry stakeholders. During the discussions, we reinforced the existing regulations and advertising conditions, while also presenting some of the current challenges linked to signage regulation and enforcement, including critical concerns relating to illegal signage and public safety. The discussions helped to strengthen collaboration and identify practical ways for the Corporation and industry stakeholders to move forward together.

We received constructive feedback from the  of whom commended the Corporation for taking a more consultative approach to regulation and enforcement. Importantly, several outdoor advertisers themselves called for stronger enforcement against illegal signage, including recommendations for amendments to the Town and Country Planning (Control of Advertisement) Regulations 1978 to better reflect the realities of the modern advertising environment.

The issues raised were relevant and constructive, and we commit to having them reviewed and addressed as part of our ongoing engagement with the industry.

From the feedback received, we are encouraged that industry players are supportive of our efforts to restore order to the advertising landscape through regularization and enforcement activities, as well as the consultative measures we are taking, through this and future meetings.

The protection and sustainability of the signage industry isa shared responsibility and depends on respect for the regulations that govern the use of public space.
